There are many pieces of Halton Hills real estate that carry a great appeal to the family who wants to get away from all of the regular rush that defines most of the Golden Horseshoe area in Ontario. This municipality consists of two main population centres and several smaller villages and hamlets, of which the community of Limehouse is one.
Limehouse is the very definition of a small community, with only 800 people calling the village home. The most common Halton Hills homes found in this community are smaller stand-alone dwellings, as well as farmhouses situated on some large acreage. Many of these homes are quite a long distance from each other, which truly gives the community the feeling of existing hundreds of miles from the nearest city instead of within a few kilometres.
Part of the appeal for Limehouse for those looking to buy property in Halton Hills is the proximity of the Bruce Trail. The popular trail runs right through the community, and through it interested people can access the lime quarries that gave the village its name. In fact, along with agriculture, the Limehouse and its kiln form the backbone of the community economy (although most people commute to work within one of the large urban centres of southern Ontario).
The quarries of Limehouse have been used for over a century now, although the town has never grown proportionately with the mining activity. Residents of Limehouse do not have to worry about sending their kids to another community for school, either; the village contains a one-hallway facility where children from grades one to five receive their first years of education.
If you are looking for a Halton Hills home within reach of the major urban centres of Ontario but with a distinctly rural feel, there might be a place in Limehouse that is perfect for you. Even if you are not looking to buy, Limehouse is a very interesting place to visit.
